Sutadonya Santa Monica Introduce
sanuki sandou, mitsuwa sutadonya
For those in California seeking a hearty and flavorful Japanese meal, Sutadonya Santa Monica offers a unique and energizing experience. Renowned for its signature "Sutadon" – a "stamina don" featuring stir-fried pork or beef infused with a powerful garlic-soy sauce and served over rice – Sutadonya brings a distinctive taste of Japanese comfort food to Los Angeles. This isn't your average light Japanese fare; it's a "power food" designed to satisfy hunger and provide a boost of energy, making it a favorite among locals looking for a substantial and delicious meal.
Sutadonya, with its roots in Japan, has built a reputation on its commitment to robust flavors, particularly garlic, and generous portions. The concept is simple: take high-quality ingredients, combine them with their secret garlic-soy sauce, and serve them quickly in a satisfying bowl. While the atmosphere is casual, the focus remains firmly on delivering a memorable and flavorful meal that truly stands out from typical Japanese offerings.
Sutadonya Santa Monica is conveniently located within the popular Mitsuwa Marketplace at 3760 S Centinela Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90066, USA. This prime spot in West Los Angeles ensures excellent accessibility for a wide range of local residents, including those in nearby areas like Mar Vista, Culver City, Santa Monica, and beyond. Its presence within Mitsuwa Marketplace adds a layer of convenience, allowing diners to easily combine their meal with Japanese grocery shopping or exploring other unique Japanese products.
A significant advantage of this location is the ample parking available in the Mitsuwa Marketplace lot. In a city like Los Angeles where parking can often be a challenge, the readily available spaces make visiting Sutadonya a hassle-free experience. The restaurant operates as a counter-service establishment within the food court, emphasizing efficiency and quick turnaround, making it an ideal choice for a casual lunch, a quick dinner, or a convenient stop during a busy day. While the ordering process primarily relies on a "do it yourself touchpad display machine," which can sometimes lead to short backups, the overall design prioritizes getting your delicious meal to you swiftly.
Sutadonya Santa Monica specializes in powerful, garlic-infused Japanese rice bowls, along with other popular Japanese comfort foods. Here are the key services and menu items they offer:

Sutadonya Santa Monica stands out from other Japanese restaurants with several distinct features that appeal to its local clientele:
- Signature Garlic-Infused Dishes: The star of the show is undeniably the prominent use of garlic in their "Sutadon" and other dishes. Their "secret garlic-infused soy sauce" is the foundation of their addictive flavors, providing a powerful and appetizing aroma and taste that is highly characteristic of their brand. The "Spicy Stir-fried Teriyaki GARLIC Beef Don" is specifically lauded for being "Very garlicky and spicy."
- Generous Portions ("Power Food"): True to its "stamina don" concept, Sutadonya is known for its hearty and substantial portions. A standard serving of "Sutadon" is often equivalent to three bowls of white rice, making it an incredibly filling meal perfect for those with a big appetite or looking for lasting energy.
- Focus on Donburi: While offering other items, Sutadonya's expertise lies in its rice bowls. This specialization ensures that their core offerings are perfected, providing a consistent and satisfying experience for fans of this classic Japanese dish.
- Efficient & Quick Service: Operating within a food court, Sutadonya is designed for speed. Despite the occasional queue at the self-order machine, the overall process from order to pick-up is generally fast, making it ideal for a quick lunch break or a convenient meal on the go.
- Affordable Pricing: Despite the generous portions and unique flavors, Sutadonya offers very competitive pricing, making it an accessible option for daily meals. One customer noted the "price is good" for their lunch.
- Variety of "Power Japanese Street Food": Beyond the donburi, the extensive selection of side dishes like Takoyaki, Gyoza, and Karaage, available in various flavor profiles, allows customers to customize their meal and explore other popular Japanese comfort foods.
- Located in Mitsuwa Marketplace: The strategic location within a popular Japanese supermarket enhances the overall experience. Customers can enjoy an authentic Japanese meal and then conveniently shop for Japanese groceries and goods, creating a comprehensive cultural experience.
It's important to note that while many reviews highlight the delicious and potent flavors, some have mentioned inconsistencies, such as "weirdly big pieces of onion" or a curry that tastes "thin and more like an instant made sauce." However, the overall sentiment points towards a place that offers a strong, flavorful, and filling meal at a good value, particularly for those who love garlic-rich dishes.
Sutadonya Santa Monica often provides value through its combo plates and potentially through the Mitsuwa Marketplace's broader events. While specific, ongoing "daily deals" directly from Sutadonya might not be extensively publicized, here's what locals can typically expect regarding promotions or special offers:
- Value-Driven Combo Plates: Many of their main donburi dishes are available as combo sets that include sides like gyoza, cabbage, and rice at a bundled price. These combos offer a complete and satisfying meal, providing excellent value for money. For instance, the "Sutadon Combo Plate" and various "Small Udon Sutadon Combo" options offer a substantial meal at a very reasonable price point (e.g., $10.99 - $17.49).
- Loyalty Rewards Program: Sutadonya offers a rewards program where customers can "Earn 1 point for every $1 spent" and "Earn 25 bonus points just for signing up." This is a continuous benefit for regular patrons, allowing them to accumulate points for future savings.
- Third-Party Delivery App Promotions: As Sutadonya is available on platforms like Uber Eats and DoorDash, customers might find occasional delivery-specific promotions, such as discounts on first orders or reduced delivery fees, offered by these platforms. It's always a good idea to check these apps for any current deals.
- Mitsuwa Marketplace Events: Being located within Mitsuwa Marketplace means that Sutadonya might occasionally participate in or benefit from larger marketplace-wide events or sales. While not a direct Sutadonya promotion, these events can draw more customers and offer an enhanced overall visit.
For the most current and specific promotions, it's advisable to check their official online ordering platforms (like Toast Tab for direct online orders) or inquire at the restaurant's self-order kiosk during your visit.

Sutadonya Santa Monica Reviews
I got the Spicy Stir-fried Teriyaki GARLIC Beef Don for lunch. The price is good and the sauce was great. Very garlicky and spicy just like it's name. The only problem with this place is that they only take orders by one do it yourself touchpad display machine and it can get backed up with people trying to order.
May 01, 2025 · MarcWeirdly big pieces of onion in the big katsu curry, the curry is also thin and more like an instant made sauce. Garlic fried rice was tasty though.
Feb 20, 2025 · Aika Emily PersonThey served not eatable riceI can tell it’s overcooked or under cooked. All stick together.Curry is COLD like just out from refrigerator. The two young guys working there running away after my order. I can’t even return it.The bread of the chicken is much thicker than chicken meat. The worst chicken katsu ever.
Feb 21, 2024 · Will LinStopped by Mitsuwa and decided to get a bowl at Sutadonya! The food was tasty, filling, and well priced. Everything I wanted in a quick lunch. Very fast and friendly service. In a corner inside the grocery store, sharing tables and chairs with other food storefronts. Swing by and grab a meal! Highly recommend and will be back.
Jan 30, 2024 · Ying LiangMy Mount Fuji curry was cold and instead of melted cheese it was store bought grated cheddar on top of Fuji, have not disliked a restaurant in a long time but this does it. They even have the audacity to have you order on a robot and ask for a tip, TIPS ARE GIVEN FOR GOOD SERVICE!!! THERES NO SERVICE AND THE FOOD IS BAD. Don’t get the weirdly seasoned curry just order some takoyaki if you order anything. (Have not had the takoyaki so order at your own risk)
