Terakawa Ramen Reviews
This place will satisfy your ramen craving, but it won't blow your mind.We started with the tempura shumai. They serve six battered and deep fried shumai, three on each skewer. The tempura was crispy, but the shumai didn't have much shrimp flavor, just a lot of doughy chewiness. Still, it comes with a spicy sauce that's umami-rich and easily soaked up by the tempura coating. A good starter. The ramen is good enough. The noodles are fresh and tender. The pork belly melts in your mouth. We tried both the signature and the miso ramen, and I think the miso was better. But there was nothing special about either. The place was crowded, but that adds an energetic ambience. One issue: they clearly do a lot of Uber eats takeout, you see tons of to-go food heading out the door, and the drivers hold the door open, so it was drafty and cold on a very chilly night when we were trying to warm up with hot broth.Overall, it was a good, filling meal at a fair price. I'd go back.
Dec 07, 2024 · Jordan ShapiroA must try ramen spot in Philly! We had a great experience at Terakawa! For appetizers, we ordered the croquette and it was delicious but we were a little surprised by the small portion size. For ramen, I had the vegetarian miso ramen and my partner had the tan tan ramen. Both were fantastic but if I had to choose, I'd go with the Tan Tan Ramen next time. The broth was rich, flavorful and had so much depth compared to the lighter miso broth. The restaurant itself is super cute with cozy and warm vibes. Our server was attentive and provided great service throughout. I'm 100% coming back to try more of their ramen and appetizers!
Dec 20, 2024 · Raman D.Literally outstanding! Picked it randomly while passing by. Try the TAKOYAKI! Couldn't get over how delicious it was. No joke. Also loved the Spicy Ramen bowl. Very good spice level. Not wimpy. Was like a level 7 out of 10 on the spiciness. Was perfect. In a nice area of University City. I've already thought about bringing others there to check it out since I left! Service was awesome too and genuine. Can't say enough good about it. 👏🏼🏅🍜. On my new faves list!
Sep 29, 2024 · Mark & Aline SimkissOur go to for flavorful ramen on a wintry day, the food is always on point, the staff friendly and service is quick! Thanks!
Dec 01, 2024 · Joni GarciaNot the hangover cure I was hoping for. Walked here after a night's worth of pub crawling up passyunk. I was seated at the counter and promptly ordered as I knew what I wanted already. I got an order of takoyaki and the terakawa special ramen. The takoyaki was good, even if slightly non traditional. They were clearly deep fried instead of using the takoyaki pan. Flavor wise it was about the same, but the texture was crispier on the outside. The ramen was good, but missing something. The broth is very pork heavy, similar to tonkatsu but upped by a factor of 10. It wasn't greasy but you can tell what the main ingredient is. The noodles were excellent. Way better than normal noodles in both texture and flavor. I wasn't asked which version I wanted(they have 2 noodle sizes) but I believe I got the thinner version. They were tender but still had a nice bite, not mushy or undercooked. The chunks of pork belly was cooked well and tender too. But overall it seemed as if something was missing. Maybe it's my inexperience with real ramen and not the instant or homemade versions I make, but it was kind of one note flavor. But what really killed it was the bugs I saw crawling on the kitchen wall while I was eating. I get that its hard in an urban area to keep them out completely, but the fact I saw multiple during the day while they were busy did it in. I've eaten in a few suspect bars and holes in the wall to know not to look too hard, but it was in my face. The seating area looked nice and clean. Staff was friendly, I saw them wiping down tables between guests but their kitchen needs a thorough scrub down apparently.
