The Sushi Samurai Introduce
Located at 1817 Queen Anne Ave N, Seattle, WA, The Sushi Samurai stands as a truly unique and pioneering establishment in Seattle's culinary landscape. This is not just another sushi restaurant; it is Seattle's first and only 100% vegan sushi restaurant, offering an innovative and delicious plant-based take on traditional Japanese fare. For those seeking ethical, sustainable, or simply inventive dining options, The Sushi Samurai provides an exceptional experience that challenges perceptions of what sushi can be.
In the context of the "Doctor Near Me" platform category, where users seek specialized services and goods to address specific needs, The Sushi Samurai functions as a highly specialized and reliable provider for plant-based culinary cravings. Just as one might seek a doctor for specific dietary requirements or health goals, The Sushi Samurai offers a meticulously crafted menu that caters entirely to vegan and gluten-free preferences, ensuring a safe, delicious, and worry-free dining experience. It's a trusted destination for those committed to a plant-based lifestyle or simply curious to explore new and exciting flavors in a sushi format.
The Sushi Samurai, while being a small place, is known for its chill vibe and pleasant atmosphere. Customers describe the interior as comfortable and welcoming, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal. Importantly, it's noted for not being too noisy, which allows for conversation and a more intimate dining experience. The restaurant's design likely maximizes its smaller footprint, creating a cozy and inviting space. The focus on the food and the overall experience rather than grand scale contributes to its charm as a neighborhood gem. This relaxed yet inviting ambiance makes it suitable for various occasions, from a casual dinner with friends to a unique date night.
The service at The Sushi Samurai is consistently praised for being excellent, friendly, and welcoming. Customers highlight the kindness of the host and staff, noting their genuine passion for the restaurant and its menu. This enthusiasm translates into a highly engaging dining experience, where staff are happy to share the story behind the restaurant and guide guests through the menu. The dedication to providing excellent service ensures that diners feel accepted and well-cared for, regardless of their dietary background. Even "non-vegan but all good loving" individuals feel completely at home and accepted.
Given its smaller size, making a reservation is highly recommended, especially during busy periods, to ensure a seamless dining experience. This proactive approach helps manage customer flow and maintain the quality of service. The Sushi Samurai also offers online ordering for takeout, providing a convenient option for those who prefer to enjoy their vegan sushi at home. Their phone numbers, (206) 766-0298 and +1 206-766-0298, are available for reservations and inquiries.
The Sushi Samurai's defining feature is its 100% vegan menu, specializing in "mocked fish" sushi rolls that impress even non-vegans with their taste and texture. They have even gained recognition from PETA for their innovative vegan curry roll. Key culinary highlights and signature features include:
- Innovative Vegan Sushi Rolls: The restaurant masterfully crafts a variety of rolls using plant-based ingredients to mimic traditional sushi. Popular favorites include:
- Spicy Tuna: Praised for its flavor, it's a go-to for those who enjoy a kick.
- Seattle Roll: Another highly recommended gluten-free option, likely offering a fresh and satisfying taste.
- Yoga Roll: A favorite that often includes ingredients like tofu, cucumbers, and cilantro in a sweet chili sauce.
- Mr. Krabs Roll: Described as "absolutely delicious," indicating a successful imitation of crab meat flavors and textures.
- Red Dragon Roll: Known for its two yummy sauces (spicy mayo and sweet chili) and perfect balance of spicy and sweet.
- Vegan Salmon: Reviewers are often "blown away by how similar it was to the actual texture," with some noting it tasted like real salmon. They utilize ingredients like konjac root, tapioca starch, and paprika for their mock seafood.
- Gluten-Free Options: Many of their rolls are naturally gluten-free, catering to individuals with gluten sensitivities or preferences. This commitment to specific dietary needs makes it a safe and welcoming dining choice.
- Appetizers and Other Dishes: Beyond rolls, the menu includes:
- Edamame: Available classic or spicy.
- Vegan Gyozas: Steamy fried dumplings stuffed with plant-based ingredients.
- Salads: Such as Kaiso (seaweed salad) and Sunamono with vegan "shrimp."
- Vegan Sashimi: Offering a realistic plant-based alternative to traditional sashimi.
- Dessert: Pecan cheesecake, noted for its lovely presentation, and edible orchids for garnish.
- Commitment to Sustainability: The owner, Ray Maranon, is driven by a passion for the environment and supporting the planet Earth, which is the core reason for their vegan philosophy ("We believe that fish are friends and not food"). This dedication adds another layer of appeal for ethically-minded diners.
While some minor critiques on knife work or the texture of certain elements (like a cold mitarashi) have been noted, the overall impression is one of deliciousness, creativity, and a successful execution of plant-based sushi that can impress even the most skeptical palates. The ability to fool non-vegans with the taste and texture of their mock fish is a significant testament to their culinary skill.
The Sushi Samurai's most compelling promotional aspect is its unique identity as a 100% vegan sushi restaurant and the overwhelmingly positive customer reviews. Word-of-mouth recommendations are strong, with customers eagerly sharing their favorite rolls and positive experiences. Recognition from organizations like PETA further bolsters its reputation and appeal within the vegan community and beyond. While noted as "a bit pricy" by some, the consensus is that the cost is "fair for the quality and location," implying good value for the specialized nature and high quality of the food. The genuine passion of the staff and owner also creates a memorable experience that acts as natural promotion.

The Sushi Samurai Reviews
Excellent place. It's a small place so booking a reservation is not a bad idea.I went with a friend and we tried all the gluten free rolls. By the way this place is fully vegan. Everything is mocked fish.My favourites were Spicy Tuna, Seattle Roll and Yoga. All are gluten-free.I wouldn't recommend Mango Tango. The service was excellent. Very nice host and really passionate about the restaurant and its menu.
May 10, 2025 · Kumar VaibhavYummy vegan rolls with a chill vibe inside. I liked that it wasn’t too noisy as well. I would definitely recommend the Mr. Krabs roll! Absolutely delicious.I loved hearing about their story and I was happy that as a non-vegan but all good loving person that I was still accepted. My only complaints are that it’s a bit pricy (though I honestly think fair for the quality and location) and the knife work in cutting the rolls could be a little cleaner and more even (but that’s really nit-picking). I enjoyed the experience and I’d be happy to come back 😊
Apr 29, 2025 · Rebecca CooperStupid good. *mind blown* I’m not even vegan I’m pescatarian. I was so impressed. Highly recommended. Please take everybody you know here, the vegan community needs all the support. The fact a city like Seattle doesn’t have more of this is dumb.
Jun 02, 2025 · kelly alexanderWe love this place SO much, we go at least once a month and love to bring friends or go on dates here. The food and the service are both amazing. There’s so many rolls to choose from, so if you have ever wanted to try plant based fish this is the spot.
Jun 02, 2025 · Goodfur Grooming SpaHad a lovely dinner and overall experience at the Sushi Samurai. The place is small so would recommend making a reservation. We dined on a Sunday at 7pm and all the booths were full; the tables closer to the sushi station weren't as occupied, but honestly those tables didn't seem as comfortable - they were pretty close together. The server (didn't catch his name) was incredibly friendly and attentive - he was super thoughtful as he brought a huge, extra amount of ginger after he noticed we quickly ate up what they had given us when we sat down.Between two of us, we ordered the spicy edamame and 5 rolls (I don't recall the names of all of them - the most memorable were the crunchy salmon and ring of fire, though all were good). We couldn't decide between the two cheesecakes so we ordered them both! They were both delicious, with a slight edge towards the ube. We also ordered hot sake.Though not vegan, I do enjoy trying new and creative twists on food and Sushi Samurai did not disappoint! Will definitely go back.
