The food is good. The lunch specials are definitely worth the money. However the lunch special ends at 3pm. We arrived at 2:50 lunch. They wouldn't honor the special prices even though we were ordering at 2:57 and I showed the waitress the time on my phone. I didn't expect any special treatment, but with No other patrons in the restaurant, I was surprised that they refused to honor the special. We have eaten there more than 20 times. Ended up going to KFC. - Mike Altman

Many long-time patrons have appreciated their food over numerous visits, particularly highlighting the value offered by their lunch specials. Despite any perceived shifts, Tokoharu remains a prominent choice for Asian dining in the area, striving to provide good food with the convenience that busy New Yorkers appreciate.

Accessibility to Tokoharu is generally favorable. Situated in a commercial area, there is typically ample parking available, which helps to alleviate the common stress of finding a spot, particularly during peak dining hours or for large takeout orders. This ease of parking is a significant benefit, contributing to a more hassle-free experience whether you're dining in or picking up. For those relying on public transportation, it's advisable to check local Dutchess County Public Transit routes that might service the Route 376 corridor, though personal vehicles remain the most common mode of transport in this area of New York. • Extensive Menu of Japanese and Chinese Cuisine: Tokoharu's menu is notably diverse, featuring:

    • Sushi & Sashimi: A selection of sushi, sashimi, and various rolls (Maki Combo, A la Carte, Vegetable Rolls, Hand Rolls, and specialty rolls like Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll, Spicy Tuna, Salmon, etc.).

    • Japanese Kitchen Entrees: This includes popular dishes like Teriyaki (Chicken, Beef, Salmon), Tempura (Shrimp and Vegetable), and Traditional entrees served with soup, salad, and rice. They also offer Hot Pots and Yaki Udon (stir-fried Japanese noodles).

    • Chinese Appetizers: A wide array including Egg Rolls, Spring Rolls, Fried Wontons, Teriyaki Chicken Sticks, BBQ Spare Ribs, Crab Rangoons, and various Chicken Wings (Fried, Honey, Buffalo, Lemon, Cajun).

    • Chinese Main Dishes: Classic Chinese offerings like Fried Rice, Lo Mein, Chow Fun/Mai Fun (flat rice noodles/angel hair pasta), Chop Suey, Egg Foo Young, and various protein-based dishes (Pork, Chicken, Beef, Seafood, Vegetable) with options like Broccoli, String Beans, Mixed Vegetables, Garlic Sauce, and more.

Features / Highlights

Tokoharu's appeal in the Hopewell Junction area is shaped by several key features and highlights, though some recent changes have impacted customer perceptions:

  • Broad Asian Menu Selection: One of Tokoharu's most significant strengths is its extensive menu that spans both Japanese and Chinese cuisines. This wide variety ensures that there's something to satisfy almost any craving, from sushi rolls and sashimi to classic fried rice, lo mein, and various chef's specials. This versatility is a major draw for families and groups with diverse preferences.

  • Value-Oriented Lunch Specials: Historically, their "lunch specials are definitely worth the money," providing a cost-effective way for locals to enjoy a satisfying meal during the daytime. This focus on value has been a key reason for repeat business from patrons.

  • Convenient Takeout and Delivery Options: The availability of online ordering and partnerships with major delivery services like Seamless, Grubhub, and DoorDash makes Tokoharu highly convenient for takeout. This ease of access for enjoying food at home is a significant benefit for busy individuals and families.

  • Consistency (Previously): While recent reviews hint at changes, one long-time customer mentioned having "eaten there more than 20 times," suggesting a history of consistent patronage and satisfaction with the food quality prior to recent shifts in ownership or policy.

However, it's important to acknowledge some reported concerns that also factor into the overall customer experience:

  • Strict Adherence to Lunch Special Timings: A notable point of contention is the strict enforcement of lunch special timings. A customer reported being denied the lunch special price even when ordering just minutes before the 3 PM cutoff, despite being a frequent patron and the restaurant being empty. This strict policy can lead to disappointment for some.

  • Changes Under New Ownership: Reviews indicate a change in ownership, which has led to shifts in customer experience, including perceived changes in food quality ("food was much better" under old owners) and new charges for items like homemade duck sauce that were previously free. These changes have been disappointing for some loyal customers.

Promotions or Special Offers

Tokoharu is primarily known for its Lunch Specials, which are available until 3:00 PM or 3:30 PM, Monday through Saturday. These specials offer a cost-effective way to enjoy a variety of their Japanese and Chinese dishes. It's important to note, as a previous customer experienced, that the cutoff time for these specials is strictly enforced.

For any other potential promotions or seasonal offers, it is recommended for locals to:

  • Check their Official Website: Restaurants often list their current specials, new menu items, or limited-time offers on their official website (e.g., https://www.google.com/search?q=tokoharuny.com or tokoharunewyork.com).

  • Monitor Online Ordering Platforms: Services like Seamless, Grubhub, and DoorDash sometimes feature exclusive promotions or discounts for orders placed through their platforms.

  • Inquire Directly: For the most up-to-date information on any unadvertised specials or new menu features, calling Tokoharu directly at (845) 226-2350 is the best approach. They can confirm current offerings and policies.

Given the reported changes in ownership, it's particularly advisable for customers to verify any long-standing promotions or policies to avoid disappointment.
