TON TON Katsuya Reviews
Everything we ate here was delicious! They give you the sesame seeds to grind while you wait for your entree and you add the house made tonkatsu sauce to taste.I got the pork tenderloin and my companion got the chicken. We think the pork was a touch more flavorful than the chicken but both were great. This is katsu the way katsu is supposed to be - crispy and impossibly light for a fried food. The sesame dressing was delightful on the cabbage.I also got the creamy milk tea (hot) and it was coconutty and delicious too!Despite the fact that the place was packed the server greeted us in an easygoing and cheerful manner. We were seated right away and brought glasses of water and she was patient when I needed a little more time to finishing looking over the menu (my first time here). She was efficient and cheerful and patient even though she was so busy. The place is quite cozy. We could barely fit all the things for our meals on the little table they seated the two of us at. And I know way more about the breakup the loudish-talking guy at the table next to us was going through than I ever wanted to know about a stranger’s personal life.
March 21 · Dareth McKennaA quintessential Japanese katsu spot. The food is top quality but if you aren't in line before they open, be prepared to wait. It gets busy. This place literally feels like it was lifted straight from Japan. Everything from the food to the small dining area feels very authentic and traditional. The seating area has been adjusted to accommodate Americans' more.....robust sizing. If they stuck true to Japan standards, they would probably be able to fit another 20 people in the restaurant. But the occupancy is capped at 40, which means if you weren't one of the first in the door by the time they open, be prepared for an hour wait. The menu is petite, which means they can concentrate on making what they do offer as good as possible. Typical in authentic Japanese cuisine, TON TON uses high quality minimalist ingredients and expert technique that results in a product that is akin to good katsu found in Japan itself. We ordered the salmon, scallops, mussels, and the chicken katsu. There really isn't much to say in terms of katsu. If you had good katsu, this is no different. It's light and crispy, not oily, and tender moist/juicy inside. I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything on the menu. There's pork, shrimp, and vegetarian options as well. Also typical of good Japanese cuisine is they don't really do much to set themselves apart. Basically, "if it ain't broke don't fix it" sort of deal. The experience at TON TON is holistically an authentic Japanese one. From the long wait/queue, the tiny interior dinning area, and masterfully crafted food, you would think you were transported to Japan for a meal. My only gripe is the price of food is at a premium. While not exactly affordable, the prices are reasonable. Normally it would cost around half this much to eat this type of food in Japan, but considering this place is in the middle of the desert, they get a pass.
January 09 · James AVMI have been to quite some pork katsu restaurants in the states from LA to Bay Area and Seattle, and this is definitely the best one.Fried oyster was fresh, and the homemade tartar sauce was amazing.Pork loin katsu was tender in the middle and oily on the edge. The wait could be a bit long, but it was totally worthy of it!
February 17 · Kuei-Da LiaoReally delicious katsu, would definitely recommend! Reminds me of katsu I had in Japan. Came on a Friday night and lined up outside at 4:45pm for their 5pm opening. Would highly suggest coming before they open as there was already a long line by 4:55pm. We were the second in line when we came at 4:45.For appetizers, we ordered the yuzu salmon, scallop katsu, and oyster katsu. For mains, we got the regular thickness pork katsu. Every dish was very good. The scallop and oyster katsu were crispy and perfectly fried, and the seafood tasted sweet and fresh. The salmon app with roe was bursting with yuzu flavor. You also get to grind your own sesame for the sesame dressing which releases a really nice roasted and nutty sesame fragrance.Expect the service to be fast! There were moments I felt rushed to order and eat. However, the food was so good, I would still come back for it. Would probably not go here for a date night/dinner to catch up with friends though due to the fast-paced experience.
February 08 · Venus HoThe place is very small and can feel a bit cramped. They tend to get busy, and since they dont take reservations, it can be a hassle. The best strategy is to arrive before they open.Ive been here a few times, and I can say they're consistent. This place serves one of the best, if not the best katsu in Vegas. My go-to order is the Katsudon, and I usually choose pork. It is absolutely delicious--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the sauce is exceptional. I've also tried their chicken katsu, which was really good, especially with their katsu sauce.Service is always great, and we've never had a bad dining experience. This place is definitely a must-try.
