Umai Nori Reviews
5/27/2025 review update: This was my second time eating here after trying it for the first time a year ago and wow everything was so dang good! I got the lunch special that included 2 specialty rolls, a traditional roll, soup, and salad. Even the basic soups and salad were really good! I loved all my rolls: the Torch Me Slowly, Mango Madness, and Shrimp Tempura Roll!
May 28 · Kent TongI’ve been to many sushi places, but this one is truly outstanding. The quality, freshness, and presentation of the sushi are on another level. Every bite was pure perfection! The service was exceptional, and the atmosphere made the experience even more enjoyable. They truly deserve a Michelin award, and I can confidently say this is the best sushi restaurant I’ve ever visited!
February 28 · SashaThe exceptional service at this sushi restaurant was evident from the moment we arrived. The highlight of our evening was a complimentary dish served with dramatic flair - presented with dancing flames at the table, adding an exciting theatrical element to the dining experience. The food was consistently delicious throughout the meal. Each dish showcased fresh ingredients and skillful preparation that you'd expect from a quality sushi establishment. The kitchen's generosity in offering a special flaming dish on the house demonstrated their commitment to creating memorable experiences for their guests. The attentive and hospitable service staff enhanced the overall experience, making us feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout our visit. For those seeking both excellent sushi and engaging presentation, this restaurant delivers on all fronts. The combination of tasty food, impressive service, and special touches like the flaming dish make it a spot worth returning to.
February 18 · Melissa JayawardaneUmai Nori is the place to go when you want to try interesting sushi. We walked in without a reservation on a Friday night and got seats at the bar, with clear view of the staff preparing the sushi. We appreciated that the bar seats had backs to them, which made the dinner much more comfortable. The food here is incredible. The hand rolls, more like sushi tacos, were very interesting albeit difficult to eat. We loved the Nigiri collection, which felt like getting a tasting experience. Service was great, especially in clearing away dishes to help manage our limited space at the bar. Umai felt a bit like a hip sushi joint in midtown Manhattan, which we quite enjoyed. We'd happily return.
February 02 · solosianThe freshest fish in DC by far (I went with a friend who said it was higher quality fish than she had gotten at places in Japan). The service is excellent as well. I've been about four or five times now and each time they've given us something on the house to show their appreciation of our business. Everything is presented gorgeously and it tastes as good as it looks if not better!! Parking is also pretty easy!
