It’s a perfect destination for those seeking a pleasant and memorable Japanese meal, whether for a special occasion or a delightful evening out in the heart of Rancho Santa Margarita.
Yamame is charmingly located at 31441 Santa Margarita Pkwy, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688, USA. This address places it conveniently within Rancho Santa Margarita, making it easily accessible for local residents and visitors to the area. Situated on Santa Margarita Parkway, the restaurant is relatively straightforward to find. While it is a smaller establishment, its location often provides access to nearby parking options. A standout feature of its accessibility is the partial view of the lake from their patio, offering a serene and picturesque backdrop for outdoor dining. This scenic element enhances the overall experience, making it a desirable spot for those who appreciate dining with a view in the beautiful South Orange County landscape.
Yamame offers a focused yet comprehensive set of services designed to provide a pleasant and intimate dining experience for its patrons:
Dine-In: The restaurant provides a cozy indoor dining area with approximately 4 tables and a small bar, creating an intimate atmosphere. Due to its small size, reservations are highly recommended as it fills up quickly.
Outdoor Seating: A significant feature is their patio, which offers about 6 tables and provides a partial view of the lake. This outdoor area is well-equipped with plenty of heaters, ensuring comfort for diners even during cooler evenings, making it enjoyable year-round in California's climate.
Takeout: For customers who prefer to enjoy Yamame's delicious food at home, takeout services are available. You can call ahead to place your order for convenient pick-up.
Fresh Sashimi and Sushi: Yamame is praised for its fresh and delicious sashimi, noting thick cuts that allow diners to truly savor the fish. They offer a variety of sushi options as well.
Cooked Japanese Dishes: Beyond raw fish, the menu includes well-prepared hot dishes. Highlights include:
Yakisoba: Noted for being well-done, not overly sweet or drenched in teriyaki sauce, and served creatively in a wooden bowl.
Karage Chicken: Often cited as a favorite, described as well-fried, crunchy on the outside, and juicy and well-seasoned on the inside.
Tempura: Generally well-done, offering crispy fried vegetables and seafood (though sweet potatoes might sometimes be slightly firm).
Udon: Available, with fresh and chewy noodles, though the soup base might vary in depth of flavor.
Yamame stands out in Rancho Santa Margarita for several key features that contribute to its appeal and positive customer experiences:
Delicious and Fresh Food: A consistent highlight is the fantastic quality of their dishes. The Yamame sashimi plate is specifically praised for being "fresh and delicious," with "thick cuts" that enhance the taste of the fish. The Karage chicken is frequently noted as a favorite, being "well fried, crunch on the outside and juicy on the inside" with excellent seasoning. The yakisoba also receives commendation for its balanced flavor, not being overly sweet.
Charming Outdoor Patio with Lake View: The availability of outdoor seating with a partial view of the lake is a significant draw, offering a unique and pleasant dining ambiance. Coupled with "lots of heaters," the patio is comfortable even in cooler weather, allowing patrons to enjoy the scenic surroundings year-round.
Prompt and Friendly Service: Despite being a small and often busy establishment, the service is consistently described as "prompt and friendly." Servers strive to be as accommodating as possible, even when "swamped," ensuring a welcoming and efficient dining experience.
Intimate and Cozy Atmosphere: With only about 4 tables inside, a small bar, and 6 outdoor tables, Yamame offers a more intimate and personal dining experience compared to larger restaurants. This creates a cozy vibe that many diners appreciate.
Creative Presentation: The presentation of the food, particularly the sashimi plate, is noted as "very natural and creative," adding to the overall dining pleasure.
Well-Prepared Cooked Dishes: Beyond sushi and sashimi, hot items like the Karage chicken and yakisoba are consistently well-executed, proving that Yamame excels across various Japanese culinary categories.
Given Yamame's smaller, more intimate setting and focus on quality dining, specific, widely advertised promotions might not be a regular feature compared to larger chain restaurants. However, it's always a good idea for customers to inquire directly or keep an eye out for potential deals:
Seasonal Specials: Restaurants often introduce special dishes or limited-time offers based on seasonal ingredients, which Yamame might do to highlight fresh produce or fish.
Lunch Combos: While not explicitly stated, some Japanese restaurants offer special lunch sets or combos that provide good value.
Early Bird/Weekday Specials: Occasionally, smaller establishments might have promotions during slower hours or on specific weekdays to encourage patronage.
Holiday or Event-Based Promotions: During certain holidays or local events, restaurants might offer special menus or discounts.
In-House Announcements: Check for any signage within the restaurant or ask your server about current specials not listed on the main menu.
For the most accurate and up-to-date information on any available promotions or special offers, it is highly recommended to call Yamame directly or check their official website or social media channels if available.

Yamame Reviews
It is a very small restaurant with about 4 tables inside, 6 tables outside and a small bar. Do make a reservation as they fill up quickly! We sat outside in February but it was fine because they have lots of heaters! You can also get a partial view of the lake from their patio. The service is prompt and friendly and food is delicious.
January 03 · Jackie HVery nice food, service and vibe. The Yamame sashimi plate was fresh and delicious. The cuts were thick, which allows one to actually taste the fish as one have to chew more. I liked the presentation as well, very natural and creative. The only issue I found was that it was a bit pricey. The yakisoba was well done and was not as sweet and drenched in teriyaki sauce. I liked the wooden bowl it was served in. Karage chicken was probably my favorite here, well fried, crunch on the outside and juicy on the inside. I could taste the chicken that was well seasoned. The edamame was decent, but the portion could be more generous. The udon was a bit disappointing, although the noodles were chewy and seemed fresh. The soup base was a bit flat, having no depth or "udon" flavor, just salty and soy sauce flavor. Tempura was pretty well done, except that sweet potatoes were still a bit hard, which means it could have used a few more seconds in the fryer. Overall, it was pleasant and good, especially the servers were trying their best to be as friendly as possible although they were swamped, and my server took a bit long to bring out the appetizer gioza, as well as extra napkins.
March 29 · Los Angeles2nd time dining here :) Sushi is fresh and yummy, service is friendly and swift. Price is pretty high but worth it. We'll definitely be coming back :)
August 12 · Angela V.My girlfriend and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner here after a walk around the lake. We had the Wahu and Gimo special rolls and they were superb! Fresh and masterfully crafted. This is our new favorite Sushi place.
November 19 · Adrian SThe food was sooooo good and fresh. I got the Koko roll and shared with my two family members who also got rolls, Yakisoba and miso soup. The fish tasted great and the sauces were very flavorful! And there was a pretty good amount for the price! The people severing were so kind and kept checking up on us.
