Kagura Costa Mesa Reviews
Best katsu I’ve had outside of Japan, and I love katsu. The food was amazing, but the service wasn’t great, even though there wasn’t a wait when I went.My food took about 25 minutes after the time I ordered.I had to ask for a water refill after waiting for about 15 minutes.Would definitely love to go back, but wish that the service was a little bit more attentive, especially since it wasn’t super busy.
Dec 27, 2024 · Brandon ReiersonThese types of restaurants are normally found only in Japan but if you like authentic Katsu dishes, this is the place to go! They even offer pork plates of varying fat content to match your taste. And bonus, Mitsuwa right next door.
Feb 28, 2025 · Chester RitchieThis place is amazing! Some of the best tonkatsu I’ve had outside of Japan. My recommendation is the curry katsu. The katsu is crispy on the outside juicy inside, while the curry give it a nice explosion of flavor. The staff is also efficient and friendly. Enjoy!
Apr 14, 2025 · Brian AguilarIf to be fully honest, the tonkatsu was not good, the rice could be better. Not sure how to describe it — the tonkatsu skin looks and tastes like the oil temperature was not high enough when frying it. Ideally the katsu skin should be crispy and dry (in a good way), but the katsu I had today, though was kind of crispy, didn’t feel dry. It felt like it absorbed too much oil. Also the skin and the pork separated, which is something we’d like to avoid when frying stuff.Overall, the tonkatsu was not good even in a U.S. standard, not to compare to the tonkatsu in Japan.
Apr 11, 2025 · 何蕙宇We ordered 3 different types of katsu. To be honest, when the waitress told us which one is which, we weren't paying that much attention. Both pork loin and filet katsu were good, but both of us preferred the ones that softer. My daughter ordered the katsu don and they liked it. Edamame and addiction eggs were good also. We probably have to try their different location to experience variety of the menu offered.
