The local food scene in Travelers Rest is always evolving, and Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse fills a niche for speed and convenience. For those who prioritize getting their meal promptly, this establishment aims to deliver. It’s important to manage expectations, as this is more of a casual, fast-food-style Japanese eatery than a full-service steakhouse. Understanding these nuances can help you decide if Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse is the right fit for your next meal out or in.

The accessibility of Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse is primarily defined by its storefront setting. For locals in Travelers Rest and surrounding areas, reaching the restaurant by car is the most common method. However, based on local feedback, parking in the vicinity can sometimes be challenging. One customer noted, "the parking lot was super crowded, making parking nearly impossible." This is a practical consideration for anyone planning a visit, especially during peak hours. Despite potential parking difficulties, the address itself is straightforward to locate for anyone familiar with the Travelers Rest area. Its placement on Benton Road likely means it's easily reachable from major routes within the town, offering a quick option for those traveling through or residing nearby.
Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse primarily focuses on providing a quick and efficient dining experience. Here's a breakdown of the services you can expect:
Dine-In Option: The restaurant does offer indoor seating, though based on customer reviews, it appears to be a smaller, darker space that might lean more towards a fast-food atmosphere than a traditional steakhouse. Seating might be limited, as one review mentioned "only 1 other table filled at 530 p," suggesting it may not always be bustling with diners inside.
Takeout Services: This seems to be a significant focus and a popular choice for patrons. Customers noted that "the food was ready quickly" when opting for takeout, indicating an emphasis on efficiency for orders to go.
Self-Service Drinks: The option to "fill your own sodas" suggests a self-service beverage station, aligning with a more casual, fast-food style of operation.
Menu Offerings: While a full menu isn't provided, customer feedback indicates the availability of:
- Sushi rolls (e.g., "2 rolls")
- Teriyaki dishes (e.g., "2 teriyaki")
- Steak, possibly in a chipped beef style
- Shrimp (e.g., "decent ammnt shrimp")
- Rice and vegetables as sides
Order-Up-Front System: Customers place their orders at the counter, which is typical for quick-service establishments.
Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse presents a unique set of features and highlights based on local customer experiences:
Speed of Service: This is arguably one of the most prominent features. Customers consistently mention the food being "ready quickly" and that it's a "faster to hockey game" option, indicating that efficiency is a priority. If you're in a rush, this speed could be a significant advantage.
Focus on Takeout: While dine-in is available, the quick service and customer feedback suggest that takeout is a strong suit. This caters well to individuals or families needing a convenient meal to bring home.
Casual Atmosphere: Described as a "small, dark restaurant tucked into a storefront" with a "fast-food vibe," it's clear Miyoko isn't aiming for a traditional, elaborate Japanese steakhouse experience. This casual setting might appeal to those looking for a no-frills meal.
Basic Menu Items Available: They offer staples like sushi rolls, teriyaki dishes, and some form of steak and shrimp, providing standard Japanese takeout options.
Self-Serve Drinks: The ability to "fill your own sodas" adds to the casual, self-sufficient nature of the dining experience.
However, it's also important to acknowledge areas highlighted by customers that might influence your decision:
Quality Concerns: Reviews mentioned "low quality" steak resembling "canned chipped beef," and heavily salted, "overcooked and mushy" rice. This suggests that while quick, the food quality might not meet everyone's expectations for a Japanese steakhouse.
Portion Sizes: While shrimp portions were noted as "decent," vegetable portions were described as "disappointingly small."
Cleanliness Issues: A significant concern raised was that "The bathroom was gross, which was a major red flag," and while the restaurant wasn't explicitly dirty, it "felt unkept."
Value for Money: One reviewer explicitly stated, "the price of the food was way more than it was worth—value per dollar is completely upside down." This indicates that some customers felt the cost did not align with the quality or experience provided.
Parking Challenges: The crowded parking lot can make "parking nearly impossible."
Based on the provided customer reviews, there is one specific mention of a promotion or discount offered by Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse:
10% Tip on Order Up Front: One customer noted they "gave 10% tip" when ordering up front. While this isn't a direct discount offered by the restaurant, it suggests a common practice or a way customers engage with the service when placing their orders. It's more about customer behavior than a restaurant-initiated special. There is no information about actual promotions or special offers provided by the restaurant itself.
For the most current information on any promotions, daily specials, or specific deals, it would be advisable for local customers to directly contact Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse via phone or visit their location in Travelers Rest. Local businesses sometimes have unadvertised specials or loyalty programs that are best discovered through direct inquiry.

For locals in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse presents itself as a specific kind of dining option, primarily suitable for those prioritizing speed and convenience above a traditional, full-service Japanese steakhouse experience. If your main goal is to grab a quick Japanese meal without the wait, this establishment might fit your needs perfectly.
The consistent feedback highlights the restaurant's ability to get food ready "quickly," making it an attractive choice for busy individuals. For instance, the comment about it being "faster to hockey game" speaks directly to its utility for people on a schedule. This efficiency is a definite plus for a community with active residents who appreciate a prompt turnaround for their meals. If you're driving through Travelers Rest and need a fast bite, particularly a takeout order, Miyoko seems structured to accommodate that demand.
However, it's crucial for local patrons to set their expectations appropriately. Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse appears to operate more like a fast-food or quick-service eatery rather than a full-fledged steakhouse with a teppanyaki grill and entertaining chefs. Reviews mention the absence of "tepanacki with jokes" and describe the ambiance as having "much more of a fast-food vibe." The self-serve soda option further reinforces this casual model. This distinction is important for locals who might be expecting a different kind of Japanese dining experience.
Concerns raised by some customers regarding food quality, particularly the "low quality" steak, the "heavily salted" and "mushy" rice, and "disappointingly small" vegetable portions, are important considerations. Additionally, issues with the cleanliness of the bathroom and the overall "unkempt" feeling, along with challenging parking, could impact the overall experience for some. The value for money was also noted as being "completely upside down," suggesting that the price point might not align with the perceived quality for all customers.
In summary, Miyoko Japanese Steakhouse is most suitable for locals in Travelers Rest who:
Are seeking a very quick and convenient Japanese takeout option.
Prioritize speed of service above a traditional dining atmosphere or elaborate culinary presentations.
Are content with basic Japanese menu items like teriyaki and sushi rolls for a fast meal.
It might not be the ideal choice for those looking for a premium dining experience, a social hibachi grill, or a restaurant with meticulous attention to all aspects of cleanliness and food quality at a higher price point. As with any local establishment, understanding its particular strengths and limitations allows residents to make an informed choice that best suits their immediate dining needs.

January 25 · Kirk LungMiyoko Japanese Steakhouse is a small, dark restaurant tucked into a storefront. I opted for takeout, and while the food was ready quickly, the quality was lacking. The steak was low quality—sort of like canned chipped beef—and it seemed a microwave may have been utilized to warm the food. The rice, though initially seeming well-cooked, was actually overcooked and mushy. Unfortunately, everything was heavily salted, which took away from the flavors. The vegetables were cooked well but came in a disappointingly small portion. The restaurant itself wasn’t dirty, but it felt unkept and had much more of a fast-food vibe than a traditional Japanese steakhouse. The bathroom was gross, which was a major red flag. On top of that, the parking lot was super crowded, making parking nearly impossible. Worst of all, the price of the food was way more than it was worth—value per dollar is completely upside down. Overall, it’s not the worst option for a quick takeout meal, but I’m not eager to return anytime soon.
March 02 · Rick GillilandThe teriyaki hibachi chicken & steak is SO good!! It's around $10-$15 to get a to-go box with enough food for two average people. The hibachi meat is cooked well and has crispy edges, which I love. The rice is mediocre, but good with the great meat and white sauce/shrimp sauce/yum yum sauce (which is 7/10 but tastes pretty good combined with 3/10 rice, haha). My husband and I usually don't have much in the way of leftovers since the rice portion isn't huge, and the hibachi doesn't come with noodles. Right now they upcharge $1 for noodles INSTEAD of rice or $6 for adding noodles -- but that's a huge upcharge considering the overall hibachi price. They do NOT have sit-down hibachi where you watch a chef cook -- this is mainly aimed at take-out. They only have throw-away boxes, cups, utensils, etc; definitely more aimed at pickup than eat in, although they do have a nice sitting area as well. You order at the front of the restaurant, and they bring the food to your table in a to-go box. Convenient, despite being a little overly casual for the sitting area's appearance. Overall, I'd say 4/5 stars due to the fantastic meat, good sauce, good veggies, okay rice, and decent pricing. We've gone a couple times and will definitely plan to go back!
April 07 · Lauren MoellerWe tried Miyoko for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Our expectations were high but were soon dashed upon entering the door. It was more of a fast food place than a nice sit-down restaurant. The food was sub par, utensils were plastic, and the place not very clean. And as we were finishing our meal, a cockroach ran across our table! Needless to say, we will not be back. Eat here at your own risk...
January 21 · HowardWe called in our order and picked it up. It was our first time there and we will be back. The food was delicious and the white sauce was also really good. The food was still warm by the time we got home. We live about 7 mins away. The inside looked really nice and clean. Staff was also friendly.
