If you're seeking genuine Japanese ramen that hits all the right notes, Ramen Dojo is definitely a spot to add to your dining rotation.
You'll find Ramen Dojo nestled in the heart of San Mateo, making it a convenient destination for residents across the Peninsula. The exact address is 805 S B St, San Mateo, CA 94401, USA. This prime location on S B Street places it in a vibrant part of San Mateo, known for its diverse dining scene and lively atmosphere. Its proximity to other local businesses and amenities makes it easy to incorporate a ramen stop into your daily errands or an evening out.
When it comes to accessibility, Ramen Dojo offers a hassle-free experience. Parking, which can sometimes be a challenge in bustling urban areas, is quite manageable here. There's usually plenty of street parking available in the vicinity, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a spot. Additionally, there’s often parking available in the lot behind the restaurant, offering an alternative if street parking is tight. This ease of access makes Ramen Dojo a practical and appealing choice for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner, whether you're driving in from a nearby town or just walking over from a local business.
Ramen Dojo focuses on providing an authentic and satisfying ramen experience. Here's a look at the services they offer:
Dine-in Service: The primary way to enjoy Ramen Dojo's offerings is by dining in. The restaurant provides a small, intimate setting, perfect for enjoying a hot bowl of ramen. While it used to be notoriously difficult to get a seat due to its popularity, the expanded dining options in San Mateo have made it easier for customers to find a spot and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.
Specialized Ramen Menu: Their menu is highly focused on various ramen options, with a strong emphasis on flavorful broths, particularly a rich tonkotsu base. They are known for their signature "special ramen" options, which often feature unique combinations of toppings and intensified flavors.
Customizable Toppings: While they offer set ramen bowls, customers can often customize their experience with additional toppings. This allows you to tailor your ramen exactly to your preference, whether you want extra chashu (pork belly), a perfectly cooked ajitama (marinated soft-boiled egg), or more green onions.
Sides and Appetizers: Beyond ramen, they typically offer a selection of classic Japanese side dishes and appetizers that perfectly complement the main meal. While specific offerings may vary, common items at ramen shops include gyoza (dumplings), edamame, and various rice bowls.
Friendly and Efficient Service: Customers consistently praise the staff for their stellar service. Reviews highlight the team's considerate, knowledgeable, and energetic demeanor, which significantly enhances the overall dining experience. This attentive service ensures your meal is not only delicious but also enjoyable from start to finish.
Takeout Options: While the dine-in experience is a highlight, many ramen restaurants, including those of similar ownership, often provide takeout options. It's advisable to call ahead or check their current policy to confirm if takeout is available for your convenience.
What makes Ramen Dojo a standout in the bustling San Mateo dining scene? It's a combination of key elements that consistently earn rave reviews:
Exceptional Broth: This is arguably their biggest draw. Ramen Dojo is celebrated for its incredibly flavorful and rich soup base. Patrons consistently compare its broth quality to other top ramen spots in the area, often noting its depth and authenticity. The tonkotsu broth, in particular, is highly praised for its creamy texture and robust flavor.
Perfectly Cooked Noodles: The texture of ramen noodles is crucial, and Ramen Dojo delivers. Customers often commend the well-textured noodles, which retain a desirable bite and absorb the delicious broth effectively.
High-Quality Toppings: From the tender, melt-in-your-mouth pork to the perfectly cooked ajitama (marinated soft-boiled egg), the toppings are prepared with care and precision. These elements are not just add-ons; they are integral to the overall quality of the ramen bowl.
Intimate and Cozy Venue: Despite being a popular spot, Ramen Dojo maintains a small, intimate dining environment. This creates a welcoming and focused atmosphere where the ramen truly takes center stage. It’s ideal for a focused culinary experience without too many distractions.
Stellar Customer Service: The staff receives consistent praise for their friendliness, attentiveness, and knowledge. Servers are often described as considerate, energetic, and helpful, even offering spot-on recommendations for special ramen dishes. This high level of service significantly enhances the dining experience.
Consistent Quality: Ramen Dojo is part of a family of highly-regarded ramen restaurants (including Ramen Parlor and Santa Ramen) under the same ownership. This lineage often ensures a consistent standard of quality across their locations, giving customers confidence in their dining experience.
Good Quality Music: As noted by a customer, even the background music contributes positively to the dining vibe, creating a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere.
While Ramen Dojo is renowned for its consistent quality and a loyal customer base, specific ongoing promotions are not widely advertised publicly. Given its popularity and the focus on the quality of its ramen, the restaurant typically relies on its reputation rather than extensive promotional campaigns. However, it's always a good idea to:
Check Their Social Media: Follow Ramen Dojo on popular social media platforms (if they have active accounts) for any last-minute specials or limited-time offerings.
Inquire In-Store: When you visit, simply ask the friendly staff if there are any current promotions or daily specials available that aren't on the main menu.
Consider Lunch Specials: Some ramen restaurants offer lunch specials during weekdays. While not explicitly mentioned in the provided information, it's a common practice worth asking about.
Because their primary focus is on delivering an exceptional dining experience through high-quality ramen, the best "promotion" might just be the value you get from a perfectly crafted bowl.

Ramen Dojo Reviews
One of the best ramen places in San Mateo! Flavorful soup, well-textured noodles, and well-cooked toppings. Soup is very similar to Ramen Parlor and Santa Ramen (all owned by the same owner). It used to be a lot more difficult to get a seat, but due to the explosion of dining options in San Mateo, it’s much easier to get a seat in the small, intimate venue. Plenty of street parking or in the lot behind the restaurant. Fast and friendly service.
Dec 23, 2024 · Wei-Ai Tai5-Stars for the stellar service—the lady that attended me was very considerate, knowledgeable and energetic and set the mood for the dinner vibes. Also, her suggestion of special ramen was right on point. The pork and egg was cooked to perfection and the broth is rich. I enjoyed my ramen very much so. Good quality of music!
Jan 13, 2025 · FrancescaSmall ramen spot with great customer service, Everything in the menu is delicious!PS. The extra spicy broth is definitely not made for the weak ;), if you’re adventurous and don’t mind the burn, I would definitely recommend getting it.
Mar 08, 2025 · Sergio C RodriguezCozy, nice small restaurant which can accommodate up to 36 people. You can easily find parking around the blocks. I went at noon on Monday and the place was 75% full. I was seated quickly at the bar area and my order was taken within 5 minutes. My ramen was served within the next 10 minutes. I got #5 on their new menu, the soft-shelled crab with garlic pork tonkotsu soup. It’s very flavorful and savory. The soft-shelled crab is to die for and the noodles have that right balance of softness and tenderness. Overall, very pleasant experience.
Sep 18, 2024 · Kayla VuongEnjoyed the soft shell crab ramen but this place is definitely NOT on the best list of ramen places I've visited. It's a pretty small restaurant although it fills up when we went during lunch time on a weekend and there were people waiting outside the door although we were never rushed to leave the table. The kitchen is very small so they're churning out pretty standard cookie cutter ramen dishes in an assembly line like fashion. As for the ramen itself, the noodles are freshly cooked which is quite enjoyable. (You can see the chef in the back drop the noodle to order). Noodle portions were a little small considering the price. Even the extra serving of noodle is not as generous as I was expecting. There is a choice of broths (mostly meat based) but they recommended the pork broth which I chose medium spicy which was a very moderate spice level but it was good for my taste. The soft shell crab ramen is considered a special so it has a preset topping list including a slice of pork belly, short shell crab (frozen and deep fried), egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, garlic. It was nice to satisfy my soft shell crab craving but ultimately frozen and deep fried crab can only meet my expectations so far. Aside from that everything was pretty good but doesn't meet what I would consider the best or excellent ramen shops in the Bay Area.
