Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi Introduce
Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi, located at 2456 S El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA 94403, USA, offers a distinctive Japanese dining experience that combines traditional sushi artistry with a lively, energetic ambiance. With phone numbers (650) 699-1999 and +1 650-699-1999, this establishment is a fixture in the San Mateo culinary scene. For local users utilizing a platform like "Doctor Near Me," Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi can be seen as a "specialist" in providing a vibrant, high-quality, and entertaining sushi experience. Just as one might seek a medical specialist for a specific health concern, patrons looking for a particular kind of dining atmosphere and culinary expertise would find this restaurant fitting the bill as a dedicated "sushi doctor" in their vicinity.
The environment at Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi is a significant aspect of its identity, evoking both excitement and, for some, a challenge. It is described as a "lively" and "energetic" space, particularly during peak times. This vibrancy is likely cultivated through its "Rock & Roll" theme, which suggests a modern and perhaps unconventional approach to a traditional Japanese restaurant. The atmosphere is designed to be "enjoyable," with "cheerful drinks" and a "contemporary environment." This can translate to a bustling interior, potentially accompanied by music that fits the "Rock & Roll" motif. For many, this translates into a fun and memorable outing, allowing for social interaction and a celebratory mood. However, it's important to note that this lively atmosphere can also lead to it being "very, very noisy inside," as one reviewer mentioned, making it difficult for quiet conversations or relaxed catch-ups. The presence of "many people drunk" further contributes to this energetic, sometimes boisterous, environment. This duality means that while some patrons are "deeply touched by the chefs’ service" and find the experience makes them "so happy," others might find the noise level and crowdedness to be a deterrent to relaxation. Ultimately, the environment caters to those who enjoy a dynamic and social dining setting rather than a tranquil, intimate one.
The services at Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi aim to provide a comprehensive dining experience. The presence of "friendly" servers and "outstanding" chefs' service is a recurring theme in positive reviews, indicating a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction. Patrons can expect attentive staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and willing to engage with diners, even participating in "sake cheers," as one reviewer enthusiastically noted. The restaurant likely offers standard dine-in service, complete with table seating and potentially a sushi bar where guests can interact directly with the chefs. Given its popularity and the mention of being "packed with people," it is reasonable to assume that reservations are either highly recommended or required, especially during busy hours. While not explicitly stated, it is common for such establishments to offer takeout and delivery services, providing convenience for those who prefer to enjoy their sushi at home. The professional and engaging service from both the front-of-house staff and the sushi chefs contributes significantly to the overall positive experience for many patrons, making them feel welcomed and valued.
The features of Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi revolve around its culinary offerings and unique approach to Japanese cuisine. The "sushi quality was truly outstanding," according to one reviewer, highlighting the freshness and skill of the chefs. A standout item that received specific praise is the "Toro Uni Roll," described as "especially delicious." This suggests a menu that includes premium ingredients and creative combinations. Beyond the traditional sushi and sashimi, the menu features a variety of "signature rolls" with creative names like "OMG Sapporo Roll," "Mt. Fuji Roll," "Rocket Queen Roll," and "Beatles Roll," reflecting the "Rock & Roll" theme. They also offer "Aburi Style Nigiri," where pieces are slightly flame-seared to bring out natural flavors. The menu extends to a range of tapas and appetizers such as "Grilled Whole Squid," "Wagyu Beef Gyozas," "Fried 'Salt Pepper' Chicken Karaage," "Roasted Shishito Peppers," and "Tuna Poke Tostadas." While the rolls generally receive positive feedback, with "their rolls are recommended and pretty good," some appetizers have received mixed reviews, such as the "grilled squid was overcooked" and "edamame was too boiled." This indicates that while their sushi rolls are a strong point, the consistency of other dishes might vary. The availability of "Secret Box" (Omakase style) that needs to be reserved in advance, reflecting seasonal and daily availability, is a feature that caters to adventurous diners seeking a chef-curated experience with pristine ingredients. The diverse menu ensures there is something for many tastes, catering to both traditional sushi lovers and those looking for more contemporary Japanese dishes and a vibrant atmosphere.
Regarding promotional information, Sapporo Rock & Roll Sushi actively promotes its offerings, particularly through its "Happy Hour" specials. They offer a happy hour from Monday to Sunday, typically between 5 PM and 6 PM, which includes a "50% OFF Mixed Sashimi." This is a significant draw, allowing patrons to enjoy high-quality sashimi at a reduced price, though it's often limited to one order per party. They also offer specials on "All Rolls" for $8 during happy hour, including popular options like Shrimp Tempura Roll, Sake Avocado Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll. Discounts on beverages, such as Sapporo beer and hot sake, are also part of their happy hour. Beyond daily specials, information suggests they offer "Carry-Out & Dine-In Specials," such as a "25% Off" for special celebrations (Mondays-Thursdays only with reservations), "Buy any 2 Specialty Sushi Rolls and get a 3rd Classic Roll for FREE" (Mondays-Thursdays only), and various combo deals on Hibachi meals or dinner packages. These promotions indicate a strategy to attract customers during off-peak hours and encourage larger orders, providing added value to the dining experience. Their commitment to offering promotions makes them a more appealing option for local users searching on a "Doctor Near Me" platform, as they can find not only a quality Japanese meal but also a good deal.

May 27, 2025 · Claire Kim (Claire)This place was too packed with people. It was very, very noisy inside, with many people drunk. We couldn’t relax and couldn’t catch up with friends at all.The food was okay, but not as good as expected 😓 Their rolls are recommended and pretty good, but the appetizers tasted just okay. The grilled squid was overcooked—too hard to chew. The edamame was too boiled—the beans got fat and very soft. The server lady also behaved poorly, and so many tiny points disappointed us.
Jan 25, 2025 · LAmazing food and service. The sashimi is definitely one of the best in the bay area! Chef Will and Tim are amazingly gorgeous, Emma and all the staff are so kind. Despite the long wait this place is awesome 💯
Jan 12, 2025 · Yu-Lin ChungFamily craving for Sushi, found this restaurant in San Mateo. Shout out to Chef Kim, great food and service, will definitely come back again. Even my kids enjoyed this place 😁
May 19, 2025 · Lex ZhouReally solid choice for sushi in the San Mateo area. I have been to Japan a few times and this is on par with well above-average fusion sushi in Japan. The quality of all fish, including salmon, o-toro, ikura and scallop is top notch. Karaage is good too. Many rolls to choose from, big portions too -at least for my European eyes-. Anna the waitress is awesome, super nice, helpful and attentive. We were a big group and she brought us several jars of sake on the house. Anna you're the best! We'll be back for dinner at the first chance we have.A point of improvement is for them to include some desserts in the menu. I would've loved to cap the night with some matcha ice cream, a portion of fluffy cheesecake or a few mochi.
