Shobu Sushi Introduce
For California residents with a refined palate for truly exceptional Japanese cuisine, particularly sashimi, a hidden gem awaits in Norco: Shobu Sushi. After years of locals venturing to the coast for high-quality fish, Shobu Sushi has emerged as a game-changer, bringing a level of freshness and expertise that rivals the best in Orange County and Los Angeles. This isn't just another sushi restaurant; it's a culinary haven where the quality of fish is "superb" and the dedication to the craft is palpable.
What truly sets Shobu Sushi apart is its commitment to serving "melt in your mouth" sashimi and sushi that leaves a lasting impression. Under the guidance of knowledgeable Chef Daniel, who is "very knowledgeable and proud to be doing what he is," diners can expect an authentic and elevated experience. The highly recommended "Omakase" option allows guests to put their trust in the chef's expertise, leading to a "whole dinner...planned out for you to savor every bite." Coupled with staff who are "very happy to be here and serving the community," Shobu Sushi delivers not just a meal, but a genuine and memorable Japanese dining journey, making it the "new home" for sushi lovers in the Inland Empire.
Shobu Sushi is conveniently located at 140 Hidden Valley Pkwy D, Norco, CA 92860, USA. This prime spot offers excellent accessibility for residents throughout Norco and the broader communities within Riverside County. Hidden Valley Parkway is a well-trafficked and easily identifiable road, making the restaurant simple to find whether you're navigating from local neighborhoods or coming from further afield in the Inland Empire.
Being situated in a commercial complex, Shobu Sushi likely provides ample parking opportunities for its patrons, contributing to a stress-free dining experience from the moment of arrival. Its strategic location ensures it's a practical and appealing choice for those seeking high-quality Japanese cuisine without the need to travel extensively to coastal areas, as many locals previously had to do.
Shobu Sushi is dedicated to offering a premium Japanese dining experience, providing a range of services tailored to connoisseurs of fresh fish and those seeking an authentic culinary journey.
Dine-In Service: Enjoy your meal in the comfortable and welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant. While customer service is generally "responsive and friendly," it is recommended to visit during less busy times for the "absolute best service."
Omakase Dining: A highly recommended service where you "trust the chef to choose the freshest fish." Chef Daniel curates a personalized multi-course dinner designed for you to "savor every bite," showcasing the best seasonal offerings.
A La Carte Menu: For those who prefer to select their own dishes, Shobu Sushi offers an extensive menu featuring a wide variety of sushi rolls, sashimi (including various combinations and plates), nigiri, and other Japanese specialties.
High-Quality Sashimi: A core offering and a major highlight, known for its "really good" quality, with specific recommendations for salmon, salmon belly, albacore, and whitefish due to their "melt in your mouth" texture and rich flavors.
Specialty Sushi Rolls: The menu includes a diverse array of sushi rolls, with those featuring "eel and tempura shrimp or crab" being particularly noted as standing out.
Real Wasabi: Shobu Sushi offers "real wasabi," specifically a "kizami Wasabi" (chopped wasabi and wasabi stem marinated in soy sauce), for an enhanced flavor experience that is "not as harsh as horse radish" and has a "slight sweetness followed with a nice after-taste."
Takeout Services: While the primary focus appears to be on the in-house dining experience, takeout options are generally available for customer convenience, allowing you to enjoy their quality dishes at home.
Catering to First-Timers: The restaurant is recommended as "a great way to introduce your friends and family to sushi and sashimi for the first time," suggesting a welcoming environment for newcomers to Japanese cuisine.
Shobu Sushi distinguishes itself within the Norco and broader Inland Empire dining scene through several exceptional features and consistent highlights that have garnered a loyal following.
Superb Quality of Fish: This is the absolute paramount feature. Customers consistently rave about the "fantastic" sushi and the "superb" quality of fish. Specific mentions of "melt in your mouth" salmon, salmon belly, albacore, and whitefish sashimi underscore their commitment to top-tier ingredients.
Authentic Omakase Experience: The ability to order "Omakase" and "trust the chef to choose the freshest fish" is a significant draw. Chef Daniel's knowledge and pride in his craft ensure a meticulously planned dinner, allowing patrons to "savor every bite" and enjoy a high-end, chef-curated journey without traveling to coastal metropolitan areas.
Chef Daniel's Expertise and Passion: Chef Daniel is highlighted as "very knowledgeable and proud to be doing what he is," which directly translates into the quality and presentation of the food. His passion for the craft elevates the entire dining experience.
Rare Real Wasabi Offering: Shobu Sushi goes the extra mile by offering "real wasabi," specifically "kizami Wasabi" (chopped wasabi and wasabi stem marinated in soy sauce). This is a rare find in many sushi restaurants and provides a distinct, nuanced flavor profile that enhances the sushi and sashimi, noted for its "delightful crunchiness" and milder, sweeter aftertaste compared to horseradish-based alternatives.
Rivals Coastal Quality at Local Convenience: A significant highlight for locals is the ability to enjoy "very high quality fish" without having to "travel to the coast," matching the quality, flavor, and prices found in OC and LA county areas, and even drawing comparisons to the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo.
Standout Specialty Dishes: Beyond the core sashimi, specific dishes like the "fried soft shell crab" (crisp outer crust, tender texture, packed with flavor), "Mackerel Nigiri" (thick, tender, satisfying), and "unagi" (chewy and savory) receive high praise, demonstrating versatility beyond raw fish.
Responsive and Friendly Customer Service: The staff are described as "very happy to be here and serving the community" and "really responsive and friendly." While busy periods might affect immediacy, the commitment to correcting issues and ensuring customer satisfaction is evident.
Excellent for First-Time Sushi Eaters: The restaurant is recommended as a "great way to introduce your friends and family to sushi and sashimi for the first time," suggesting an accessible and positive experience for newcomers to Japanese cuisine.
The provided customer reviews for Shobu Sushi emphasize the consistent high quality of their ingredients and the unique dining experiences they offer, rather than explicit discount-based promotions. However, the mention of "Omakase" by Chef Daniel serves as a unique "special offer" in itself. This is not a discount, but rather an elevated, curated dining journey where the chef selects the "freshest fish" and plans out a multi-course meal for the diner. This experience, focused on showcasing peak quality and culinary artistry, is a premium offering that discerning sushi lovers seek out.
Additionally, the consistent praise for the value and quality relative to coastal high-end sushi spots (rivaling "quality, flavor, and prices I can find in the OC and LA county areas") suggests that Shobu Sushi inherently offers strong value, as locals can enjoy top-tier fish without the added travel time and expense to larger metropolitan areas. This convenience and comparable quality can be seen as an ongoing benefit to patrons.
While specific happy hour deals, daily specials, or loyalty programs were not detailed in the reviews, it is common for restaurants of this caliber to occasionally feature:

Shobu Sushi Reviews
The sushi is fantastic. The quality of fish they serve is superb. I am very happy to have found this location. It has been hard to find decent sushi here in Corona. After venturing to 6 different sushi restaurants, I have found my new home.Chef Daniel is very knowledgeable and proud to be doing what he is. The staff seem very happy to be here and serving the community.I recommend ordering "Omakase".It means you trust the chef to choose the freshest fish. The whole dinner is planned out for you to savor every bite. You will enjoy what Chef Daniel provides for you.I am very happy I no longer have to travel to the coast in order to enjoy some very high quality fish.Thank you Shobu Sushi.
Feb 26, 2019 · Chris KempleBLUF: Sashimi here is really good, must-trys: salmon, salmon belly, albacore, and whitefish.(Tend to melt in your mouth)Sushi also good, especially ones with eel and tempura shrimp or crab really stands out.Recommended: Ask for a side of real wasabi.===========The fresh cuts of sashimi and in the chirashi bowl are thick and dressed lightly with sauces (such as ponzu), real kizami-style wasabi, and tobiko (flying fish roe) or masago (smelt roe). The main show stoppers are consistently the salmon, salmon belly, albacore, and white fish sashimi. I've been to Shobu Sushi a couple times and these cuts are generously thick, tender, and melt in your mouth with a melody of flavors. It rivals the quality, flavor, and prices I can find in the OC and LA county areas, and is the closest to my experience at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, Japan.Additionally, the fried soft shell crab is on point with a crisp outer crust but with a tender texture packed with flavor throughout the bite. The Mackerel Nigiri is thick, tender, and satisfying. The unagi (broiled fresh water eel) is chewy and savory.I highly recommend trying the real wasabi with your fresh cuts of fish. Real wasabi is not as harsh as horse radish, and actually has a slight sweetness followed with a nice after-taste. If you order a side of "real wasabi", Shobu Sushi will give you their kizami Wasabi, which is a type of chopped wasabi and wasabi stem marinaded in soy sauce and given a thin starchy layer to lock in the freshness. It's more savory and has a delightful crunchiness not found in freshly grated wasabi (which is also a must try when you find it) that enhances the flavors of the sushi and sashimi you eat.The customer service here is really responsive and friendly, but I recommend going when they are not fully packed for the absolute best service. And if you have any issues with your order, let them kindly know immediately and they will correct it or help you the best they can.Overall Shobu Sushi is my go to for amazing sushi and sashimi in the IE, and is a great way to introduce your friends and family to sushi and sashimi for the first time. They set a high bar in quality, and if you focus on Shobu Sushi's top menu items (and possibly off menu items like the real wasabi and salmon belly), your friends and family will likely be begging to go back again.
Mar 29, 2022 · Kyle YoungAmazingly high quality, thoughtful presentation, and fresh FRESH! Highly recommended sashimi with raw Wasabi. Definitely a gem!EDIT: 04/18/2020Okay... If I could give these folks 5 MORE stars, I would!Sheltering and Social Distancing are NO EXCUSES to not get top-notch fancy sushi with Shobu! I told them I wanted something special for my birthday, gave a budget, and just LOOK at the feast we got! Shobu truly can make any meal special, create a fancy date-night at home, even in the midst of current quarantine. Thank you, and everyone please continue to be safe!
Apr 19, 2020 · C-Michael RafanoIve been here before and always thought the sushi rolls were good. But man did they step it up even more.Service - was wonderful. Waitress was very nice, smiling, and quickly attentive.Food - tried a fresh roll, tempura roll, snd my favorite the baked salmon roll. I get a baked salmon at every place i go to, and hands down this place has the best baked salmon roll ever. Perfect amount of rice/meat ratio, and perfect size.Restraunt - clean, good music (not too loud & not too quiet), beautiful blossom tree inside.Pricing - a little bit more than the average sushi place in the area, but i will say you do get what you pay for and if its raw meat i want the best. Worth the extra 2 dollers per roll. Will go again and recommend to my friends.
