Daikaya Ramen Shop was a cool spot to go to for a short weekend trip. I was told this was the place to go and one of the best ramen places to must try when exploring Washington, DC.I had the Shio ramen. I wanted to give it a try especially because the broth is prepped for many hours and once served, it is as delicious with all ingredients. The ramen was fresh amd soft, it was my first time tasting Brussels sprouts in ramen and I didn't mind it at all.We ordered the spring rolls as an appetizer. It was served with a habanero sauce on the side. Diving into our ramen and getting full from other, I almost forgot to try the spring rolls. The restaurant was small, spacious enough for small groups or options to sit across the table with other customers. The way it us set up, it gives it a hip and savvy vibe. Our waitress was friendly too.Thank you for the delicious ramen and service. What a great ramen joint to try at our first DC place to eat. - Nancy Wong Shek

DAIKAYA Introduce

When the craving for a deeply satisfying bowl of authentic Japanese ramen strikes in Washington, D.C., locals know to head straight to DAIKAYA. Located in the bustling Chinatown neighborhood, DAIKAYA isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience that transports you directly to the vibrant streets of Sapporo, Japan. Celebrated for its meticulously prepared broths, perfectly cooked noodles, and a "hip and savvy" atmosphere, DAIKAYA has solidified its reputation as one of the best ramen places to try when exploring the nation's capital.

Location and Accessibility

DAIKAYA is perfectly positioned at 705 6th St NW, Washington, DC 20001, USA, placing it in the heart of D.C.'s lively Chinatown. This prime location makes it incredibly convenient and accessible for anyone in the District of Columbia. It's just a stone's throw from the Capital One Arena, making it an ideal spot for a pre-event meal. Public transportation is a breeze, with the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station (serving the Red, Green, and Yellow lines) directly across the street. This exceptional access via Metro makes DAIKAYA a go-to destination from virtually anywhere in the city. Numerous bus routes also stop in the immediate vicinity. For those opting to drive, various public parking garages are available within a few blocks, though as is typical for downtown D.C., street parking can be challenging, especially during peak hours. The distinct two-story setup, with the ramen shop on the first floor and the Izakaya on the second, allows for different dining experiences in one central location.

Services Offered

  • Dedicated Ramen Shop (1st Floor): DAIKAYA's ground floor is solely dedicated to serving its renowned ramen, providing a focused and authentic ramen experience. It operates on a walk-in only basis, encouraging spontaneous visits.

  • Izakaya Restaurant & Bar (2nd Floor): Upstairs, the Izakaya offers a more expansive menu of Japanese small plates, grilled skewers, sushi, and a full bar with an extensive sake list and Japanese whisky collection. This provides a different, more social dining atmosphere, often with a live DJ on weekends.

  • Variety of Ramen Broths: The ramen shop specializes in Sapporo-style ramen, featuring rich and flavorful broths prepared for many hours. Popular options include Shio (delicate and aromatic salt-based), Shoyu (rich soy sauce-based with toasted garlic), Mugi-Miso (bright, savory barley miso), Spicy Miso (balanced and complex with white miso), and a highly praised Veggie ramen (wok-charred vegetable broth). They also offer a "Super Spicy Shoyu" for heat seekers.

  • Customizable Ramen Toppings: Diners can load up their ramen with additional toppings such as Nitamago (soy-marinated soft-boiled egg), Chashu (roasted pork shoulder), extra ground pork, Pork Belly, Menma (bamboo shoots), various spice bombs (including a vegan option), and extra vegetables like Brussels sprouts and snow peas.

  • Appetizers and Sides: Both levels offer a selection of appetizers. The ramen shop provides essential sides like Fried Gyoza (pork and chicken dumplings), Veggie Spring Rolls with jalapeno jam, and Steamed White Rice (Gohan). The Izakaya menu expands to include unique small plates like Takoyaki, Grilled Shiitake Skewers, and Tuna and Watermelon Poke.

  • Takeout and Delivery: For the convenience of D.C. locals, DAIKAYA offers ramen for takeout and delivery, ensuring you can enjoy their delicious bowls from the comfort of your home. Orders can often be placed via Toast Online Ordering, DoorDash, and Uber Eats.

  • Full Bar & Drink Menu (Izakaya): The upstairs Izakaya features a wide selection of Japanese beers, sake, cocktails, and a notable collection of Japanese whisky, enhancing the overall dining and social experience.

Promotions or Special Offers

DAIKAYA offers a highly appealing Happy Hour at its Izakaya on the second floor, which is a great draw for D.C. locals. You can often find discounted Sapporo Draft beer, wines, sakes, and even a Draft Mule. For food, there are usually small bites available in the $2-$4 range, which could include items like gyoza or other selected appetizers from their Izakaya menu. Additionally, the Izakaya hosts "Punch Drunk Monday" and "Whiskey Wednesday" specials, providing even more reason to visit.
